10:42:21 AM [Visitor] I'm not able right now because I am at work and have to go into a meeting. How can I contact you again?
10:43:54 AM [Jim Ashmore] You can chat live 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday.
10:44:19 AM [Visitor] I will get back with you.

10:34:08 AM [Nicole] Hello. I was sanctioned because I was attending college instead of going to a mail project. I think that is very backwards. I understand that this is your policy but was wodering why my medical was stopped. I am diabetic and have sveral other medical situations that I need to have insurance for to get my medicines and see my doctors
10:40:15 AM [Jim Ashmore] For initial sanctions, you shouldn't lose your medical coverage. That typically doesn't start until your third occurrence. Have you been sanctioned before?

10:29:56 AM [Visitor] once i fillout the application for food assistance, where do i go to turn it in and how long does it take to get an interview?

10:38:56 AM [Jim Ashmore] You can come to 222 E. Central Parkway, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. We will interview you that day.

10:24:30 AM [Visitor] Plus his father just retired from the railroad and has penty of money. Where as my husband has had open heart surgery, plus other countless surgeries and cannot work, we can't get any help!!! Is there anyway that someone can explain this to me???
10:28:21 AM [Visitor] So with they money that we get, can we get any help???
10:35:53 AM [Jim Ashmore] Can you do me a favor and participate in a private/secure chat? You can give your Social Security Number, and they can check for you. http://www.hcjfs.hamilton-co.org/TodayatHCJFS/2010/03/FAALiveChats100308.htm

10:31:29 AM [Katherine] thank you should I do that now and end this chat?
10:32:53 AM [Jim Ashmore] Yes. They'll be available until 2 today.

10:24:18 AM [Katherine] Yes that is how we do my food benefits and health benefits

10:25:02 AM [Katherine] It was discontinued one time because someone forget to put that in the system
10:25:26 AM [Katherine] Thank you for asking
10:31:01 AM [Jim Ashmore] Please click on this link to set up a phone interview: http://www.hcjfs.hamilton-co.org/Demo/services/cashassistance/FAAChat.htm We can then take another look at your cash eligibility.

10:28:30 AM [Visitor] Ok thank you
10:28:57 AM [Jim Ashmore] You're welcome.

10:21:34 AM [Visitor] So is it even worth me trying and sending in my application anyways?
10:28:19 AM [Jim Ashmore] My opinion is if there is any doubt, go ahead and apply. Let's take a look.

10:23:42 AM [Veronica] I am on dis for MS. My daughter drew off of me until May. She has a learning disability so I homeschooled her so she could graduate. She lost her medicaid and has serious health problems. There are many people I know that get medicaid just because they have a small child. Many are drawing unemployment a kicking back and enjoying it. I have applied for SSI for her and now I have appealed it. What gives anybody the right to choose if my daughter lives or dies. I have a congressman on this case and I am going to a lawyer today. Who gives any county the right to play GOD?

10:26:54 AM [Jim Ashmore] I can appreciate your frustration. But please know, rules regarding eligibility are not set by local lawmakers. They are federally approved and subsequently implemented.

10:17:16 AM [Alexis] Good morning! And thank you for your time! I'm wondering if there is a calculator to determine an amount of child support I might receive if I choose to apply?
10:22:20 AM [Jim Ashmore] I don't think so, because that involves the income of both parents, I believe. Sorry, this is not my area of expertise. However, you may want to chat privately with a tech: http://www.hcjfs.hamilton-co.org/Demo/services/childsupport/default.htm

10:12:19 AM [Visitor] My question, I wanted to apply for food assistance... I took the qualification test and what I don't understand is why you require my income before taxes.. b/c that isn't what I get in my pay check.. if I put in what I actually get after taxes I could get help but b/c I have to put in my income before taxes I can't get help. I am a single mother working full time and really could use some help.
10:19:44 AM [Jim Ashmore] Food assistance disregards are factored in after the gross income test. So while it may not appear that they are factored in, they are. Unfortunately, the guidelines are required by federal law. Therefore, county options do not exist.

10:12:10 AM [Terry ] I need to find out what to do to activate my food benefit card. I used to live in Butler county and now reside in Hamilton county.
10:18:02 AM [Jim Ashmore] Please use our private/secure chat to discuss specifics about your case: http://www.hcjfs.hamilton-co.org/TodayatHCJFS/2010/03/FAALiveChats100308.htm

10:11:38 AM [Visitor] I can't get any help because I make to much money!!!! I am doing everything I can to keep my home and feed my family and just because I make a little more than aloud. My husband will never be able to work again and he can't get any help!!!!! I get so upset about people like my neighbor telling you that he his homeless and he gets help!!!!! I guess I can go down and say that I am homeless and get help. Seems like the thing to do!!!! You have totally missed my point!!!!! Why is he getting away with this??? I want a answer!!!! People are loosing their homes and jobs everyday..They can not get help, they are in the same boat as me and yet a 28 year old man who does not have a family any childern can get help. I would like someone to explain this to me!!! I have a hard time trying to keep my home and feed my family.
10:16:00 AM [Jim Ashmore] I can understand your frustration. Here is a whole list of services available to help people so they don't lose their homes. http://ohioheretohelp.ohio.gov/index.stm As to the neighbor, I'm afraid without the exact situation, we would have no way of knowing that. Please know we do our very best to prevent fraud in the system. Unfortunately, like many other programs, there is always the risk of dishonesty. I suggest you contact the Hamilton County Fraud Number: 946-7542.

10:01:17 AM [Katherine] what do you mean a much lower poverty threshold
10:07:13 AM [Katherine] Can the benefit bank in my area help me with this process
10:11:31 AM [Jim Ashmore] The link to the Benefit Bank QuickCheck will help you see your likelihood of eligibility. In addition, it will provide you a list of nearby Benefit Bank sites. Beyond that, please know we can take a look at you application at any time.

9:59:39 AM [Visitor] I would like to know why people who are telling you that they are homeless are getting food stamps??? I have a neighbor who is not homeless, just too lazy to work, a drunk, a druggie, who lives with his parents, who his father just reitred from the railroad and a millinaire, is getting food stamps?? I am a working mother of three and a husband that is on SS for medical reasons and I can't get any help at all!!!!! I don't think it is fair that I have to come to work everyday and work my butt off to take care of my family and he just has to walk through your doors and say that he is homeless and he gets help!!! He's not married no childern, but he gets help from the state. How do I get help for my FAMILY???
10:05:01 AM [Jim Ashmore] Thanks for your views. Have you applied for benefits? We are obligated to follow state and federal guidelines for eligibility, so while I can't speak to the specifics of this gentleman's case, we can certainly look at your eligibility. You can check here to see if you might qualify: https://secure.thebenefitbank.com/ums?task=quick_check

9:49:18 AM [Katherine] Our family is currently receiving food assistance and health benefits what I am inquiring is about cash assistance
9:49:27 AM [Katherine] We have no income
9:50:01 AM [Katherine] We are a family of 5 what will that do to our food assistance benefit?
10:00:07 AM [Jim Ashmore] Cash assistance has a much-lower poverty threshold for eligibility than food assistance and health benefits. You could use the Benefit Bank's QuickCheck calculator: https://secure.thebenefitbank.com/ums?task=quick_check If there is any doubt, please go ahead and apply.

9:49:43 AM [Visitor] yes i just recieved my cash assistance card yesterday in the mail. m wondering if it was for the month of august or september? and on what day of the months ahead it will be reloaded
9:57:41 AM [Jim Ashmore] Did you get an approval notice. And, if so, did it have your eligibility dates on it? Without looking into the exact details of your case, I can't tell. You can try calling the 1-800 number associated with the cash card. And they should be able to help you.
