Child Care Employment Opportunities
The Hamilton County Department of Job and Family Services contracts with local child care centers and child care home providers who meet state licensing or certification requirements. These homes and centers provide child care services to Hamilton County families who are eligible for the state’s subsidized child care program.
This fact sheet explains the general types of child care providers and where you can find additional information.
Types of child care opportunities
Child Care Centers
Care for seven or more children of any age.
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services must license centers. If you are interested in opening a Child Care Center, call the local state Child Care Licensing Office at (513) 551-1957.
Type A Homes
Care for 7 to 12 children in the provider’s personal residence. The provider’s own children under the age of six must be included in the number.
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services licenses Type A homes. If you are interested in becoming a Type A Home Provider call the local state Child Care Licensing Office at (513) 551-1957.
Type B Homes
Care for one to six children in the provider’s personal residence. The provider’s own children under the age of six must be included in the total count.
Anyone can operate a Type B Home without a license, but if you care for more than 6 children you must have a license. Type B homes are certified by HCJFS.

If you are interested in becoming a Type B Home Provider call the Hamilton County Department of Job and Family Services, Home Certification Unit at (513) 946-1800 to be scheduled for a “first contact” meeting. You will receive your application at that meeting.
