Child Care Services

Fact Sheet

Making Changes in Your Child Care

Changes in your work or school schedule may mean changes in your child care arrangements. This fact sheet should help you with the most common changes.

What if I need additional child care hours or days?

First discuss your needs with your provider. If your provider agrees, request the additional time from your Consumer Specialist. Additional time is paid only if requested and approved in advance.

You may be asked to supply documentation supporting your request, such as a letter from your employer. Providers can call 946-1800 to confirm that the additional hours have been approved.

What if I want to change providers?

Unless there is an emergency, you may change providers only at the beginning of a voucher period. Let your existing provider know that you are switching providers. To change providers, simply give your voucher to the new provider on the first day of care. When your new provider validates your voucher, Child Care Services will change your provider name on future vouchers.

If you want to switch providers but you don’t have a new provider in mind, ask your Consumer Specialist for a list of providers.

If there is an emergency and you need to change providers during a voucher period, call your Consumer Specialist immediately. Special arrangements must be made for a new voucher.

You should give your current provider two weeks notice.

What if I no longer need child care?

Tell your provider and Consumer Specialist as soon as possible.  Your Consumer Specialist will send a notice to stop your vouchers and close your case.
