Information for the Parent Paying Support
As the parent paying support, you have a right to:
· Be notified of any formal action being taken against you.
· Confidentiality of all information about your case, unless you agree in writing to allow Child Support Services to release information.
· Request a modification or mistake of fact hearing.
· Request a child support payment history or other information that pertains to you from Child Support Services.
As the parent paying support, you are responsible for:
· Paying your child support regularly. This includes making support payments directly to Child Support Payment Central when your first wage withholding is being set up with your employer or when you have changed jobs and a wage withholding is being set up with your new employer. It can take several weeks for paperwork on a wage withholding to be completed.
· Maintaining a current address with Child Support Services. You are required by law to notify Child Support Services of your change of address and to maintain a current address at all times. Notify your Child Support worker if you move. Filing a change of address with the U.S. Post Office does not change your address with Child Support Services.
· Informing Child Support Services when you change jobs and providing your new employer’s complete address.
The parent receiving support is required by law to inform Child Support Services of important changes that may affect your case. However, it is in your best interest to notify Child Support Services if your child:
Ø Reaches 18 years of age
Ø Is adopted by someone else or legally placed in the custody of another person
Ø Graduates from or no longer attends high school
Ø Joins the armed forces
Ø Marries before age 18
Ø No longer lives with the other parent
Ø Dies
You also need to notify Child Support Services if you and the other parent begin or resume living together or marry or remarry one another.
You will need to provide proof of these changes in your case. All proof must contain your child’s name. Several of the documents Child Support Services can accept are:
· A high school diploma
· Marriage license
· Military enlistment document
· Death certificate
· Adoption papers
Child Support Services tracks your child support case through the Support Enforcement Tracking System (SETS). The computer system will continue to charge child support until we have a court order that allows a worker to change or stop child support. Without your input, Child Support Services and the courts have no way to know that support should be changed or stopped in your case. By law, you are required to notify Child Support Services of changes affecting your case. Please communicate with us whenever necessary.
