About Medicaid

 

Medicaid is healthcare coverage that is funded by the state and federal government.

 

The Hamilton County Department of Job and Family Services (HCJFS) oversees Medicaid programs that provide health care coverage to:

 

·    Income-eligible parents and their children up to age 21

·    Preventive and treatment services up to age 21

·    Pregnant women

·    Older adults

·    Income-eligible people with disabilities

·    Children in foster care


Types of Medicaid programs that HCJFS administers:

·    Healthy Start – This is for pregnant women and children up to 19 years old. Eligibility is based on income and family size.

·    Healthy Families – This covers children under age 19 and parents with incomes at or under 90 percent of the federal poverty level.

·    Healthchek provides preventive and treatment services for anyone eligible for Medicaid under age 21.

·    Pregnancy-Related Services provides prenatal care, education and nutrition counseling.

·    Aged, Blind and Disabled Medicaid (includes nursing home and in-home care)

·    Non-Emergency Transportation (NET) (transports eligible Medicaid recipients to and from medical appointments)

 


 

Who is eligible?

 

For Medicaid:

Eligibility is based on income. Pregnant women, adults 65 and older and individuals of any age with disabilities (including individuals who are legally blind) may qualify for Medicaid.

 

For Healthy Start/Healthy Families:

Eligibility is based on income. Low-income families, children up to age 19 and pregnant women may qualify.

 

For Non-Emergency Transportation (NET) services:

You must be a Medicaid client and show a documented need (such as a doctor’s letter) for transportation to your medical appointment. Call (513) 946-2464.

Apply online at www.hcjfs.org, click on the Forms/Applications button on the right side

By mail:

Call (513) 946-1000 and an application will be sent to you in the mail. The same phone number can be used for nursing home and waiver Medicaid.
