Medical Assistance (Medicaid)

Medical Assistance

Medicaid is state and federally funded health care coverage. HCJFS administers Medicaid programs that provide health care coverage to:

  • Income-eligible parents and their children up to age 21
  • Preventive and treatment services up to age 21
  • Pregnant women
  • Older adults
  • Income-eligible people with disabilities
  • Children in foster care

Medicaid is very broad, with two major covered groups, Aged, Blind, and Disabled (ABD), and Covered Families and Children (CF&C).

There are several Medicaid programs. To learn about the different programs, read about Medicaid.

Individuals that are not eligible for Medicaid because they are receiving cash assistance through Ohio Works First may be eligible for County Medical Services. Individuals who receive Medicare, but whose income is too high to qualify for Medicaid, may be eligible for the Medicare Premium Assistance Program.
