What is Medicaid?

Medicaid is state and federally funded health care coverage. HCJFS administers Medicaid programs that provide health care coverage to:

Income-eligible parents and their children up to age 21
Preventive and treatment services up to age 21
Pregnant women
Older adults
Income-eligible people with disabilities
Children in foster care

Medicaid is very broad, with two major covered groups, Aged, Blind, and Disabled (ABD), and Covered Families and Children (CF&C).

There are several Medicaid programs:

Healthy Start is geared toward pregnant women and children up to age 19. Eligibility is based on income and family size.
Healthy Families helps children under age 19 and parents with incomes at or under 100 percent of the federal poverty level.
Healthchek provides preventive and treatment services for anyone eligible for Medicaid under age 21.

Pregnancy Related Services refers Medicaid-eligible pregnant women to prenatal care and transportation services.
Aged, Blind and Disabled Medicaid (includes nursing home and in-home care).

To apply for Healthy Start or Health Families, print and complete this application. It can be either mailed or faxed.
