Food,
cash and medical
assistance

Consumers can usually apply for food, cash and
medical assistance by completing one

Food Assistance
(formerly food stamps) is a monthly benefit for
eligible individuals and families to purchase food. Benefits
come in the form of a plastic card called the
Ohio Direction Card. For more

Cash
Assistance, or
Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF),
is the federal program that
funds many cash assistance programs across Ohio.
The dollars provide a monthly payment (through EPPICard debit card or direct deposit) to
low-income families with minor children at home.

is state and federally funded health

Some consumers may also be eligible for Healthy
Start/Healthy Families.
Healthy Start is
no-cost medical insurance geared toward pregnant
women and children up to age 19. Eligibility is
