Walker fills Children's Services assistant director's slot

Agency Director Moira Weir today announced the selection of Section Chief Aiesha Walker as interim assistant director in charge of Children's Services, effective today (Aug. 9).

"Aiesha has vast experience in every major program area and is a true child welfare advocate," said Weir, who held the post until being named the agency's interim director in July. "I have had the pleasure of working with Aiesha for many years. Throughout the years, Aiesha had demonstrated leadership, passion and dedication. She will be a great asset to our team."

Walker has served as an Ongoing section chief since transferring from Child Support Enforcement in 2005. She started her career at HCJFS in 1994 as an Income Maintenance worker.

She advanced to OWP/LEAP case manager in the Ohio Work Program (today known as Workforce Development) and then served in Children’s Services. She was promoted to team leader in 1998, supervising a multi-discipline unit (IM, Child Support, Child Care) -- and became a section chief in 2001. She holds a Master’s in Social Work (MSW).

Walker said: "I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to serve as the assistant director to Children's Services. I thank Moira for having the confidence in me to take on this role.

"I am passionate about child welfare and believe it to be one of the most important, yet difficult jobs there are. So, though this is a temporary role for me, I plan to approach it with much effort and commitment.

"There is much work to be done. I have the utmost respect for all Children's Services staff and look forward to collaborating with them to facilitate positive results for the division."
