Children's Services Hiring Fair huge success

Oct. 1, 2007 -- Hamilton County Children's Services, a division of the county's Department of Job and Family Services, took a big step toward adding vital resources to help kids on Saturday, Sept. 29. The agency's first Children's Services Hiring Fair went a long way toward addressing a child protection caseworker shortage.

Here are preliminary results:

r 50 candidates interviewed, selected for positions, negotiated salary and initiated background checks.

r 50 candidates interviewed and selected for positions. They will be scheduled this or next week for salary negotiations and background checks.

r 50 walk-in candidates who completed applications, but were not yet interviewed. Their applications will be screened in the upcoming week or so. Those candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be scheduled for interviews over the course of the next few weeks.

r 40-50 candidates who were interviewed and not selected or who did not meet the minimum qualifications and may have expressed interest in other HCJFS positions.

Oct. 4 UPDATE: 115 offers of employment made...more on the way

Human Resources staff received 152 pre-Hiring Fair applicants who responded via the County’s Web site on-line application.  Each of those was screened and  88 RSVP interviews were scheduled for the day of the event.  An additional twelve 12 interviews were pre-scheduled with candidates for a future date.   On Sept. 29, there were 326 additional walk-ins, of which 70 were interviewed as prospective Children’s Services workers. As a result of the overwhelming number of walk-in candidates, there are an additional 53 walk-in applications which still require screening for minimum qualifications.  On Sept. 29, Children’s Services managers and section chiefs conducted 153 interviews.

From those 153 interviews, 115 offers of employment were made, contingent upon successful receipt of appropriate employment reference, JFS background, fingerprint and criminal screening.  Twenty-nine other walk-in applicants who were interviewed but have not completed the background checking process have been contacted by HR staff to have this process completed.  Additionally, there were  31  applicants not selected, two  declined our offer and one had already accepted employment elsewhere.
