Ombudsman clears JFS of allegations in Cincinnati Enquirer story

Feb. 8, 2008 -- An independent review by a county ombudsman found there was no proof to allegations made in a Jan. 30 Cincinnati Enquirer story that the Hamilton County Department of Job and Family Services mishandled a Children’s Services case involving a mother of three.

The ombudsman’s findings, detailed in a story in today’s Enquirer, Review: agency didn’t ignore threats, revealed the agency did not receive notice of the mother’s alleged threat to kill her children until the very court hearing where it was criticized for not acting.

The Enquirer originally published a correction to the story, Charged Mom Got Custody, the following day, saying the agency was unaware of the threat. Today’s story took the correction a few steps further.
