Lead Testing Events Highlight Community Awareness Week

July 18, 2008 -- Free lead-testing events will be held throughout Hamilton County to mark the upcoming Ohio Lead Awareness Week and draw attention to a problem that plagues the children of this community.

Lead poisoning, which causes brain damage and is the number one environmental threat to children, has been a serious local problem for some time. The city of Cincinnati has the third highest percentage of lead poisoned children in Ohio.

A simple lead test is the only way to know if a child has been poisoned. To mark Ohio’s Lead Awareness Week (July 20 to July 26), children from 9 months old to age 6 can be tested at area clinics at no cost.
