241-KIDS
35 years of protecting children
What
started as a single phone in the old welfare building has evolved into
an efficient operation staffed by some of the most experienced social
workers in the country. In the past 35 years, 241-KIDS has come a long
way as the gateway to help for abused kids.
Hamilton County was the state’s first county to develop a comprehensive
emergency service for abused and neglected children. All 88 Ohio
counties have since added this important service.
A unit
of Children’s Services in the Hamilton County Department of Job and
Family Services, 241-KIDS handles more than 66,000 calls and refers more
than 6,000 new reports of abuse for investigation in a year.

241-KIDS.
What is 241-KIDS?
241-KIDS (241-5437) is Hamilton County's phone line to report known or
suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. Children's Services, a
division of the Hamilton County Department of Job and Family Services,
operates the line -- available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
When should I call 241-KIDS?
Call whenever you suspect that a child
under the age of 18 (or 21 if physically or mentally disabled) has been
abused or neglected. It's important to call as soon as possible because
(1) waiting can create problems with investigating the alleged abuse,
and (2) a child could be at risk for more maltreatment.
Who answers at 241-KIDS?
Specially trained caseworkers are always there. They will ask questions
to determine whether your information is an allegation of abuse or
neglect.
How will 241-KIDS decide what to do about my call?
Like a hospital emergency room, 241-KIDS
must set priorities on calls. Many factors determine priority, but
caseworkers will always follow agency policies and procedures, state JFS
guidelines and state law.
