Child Support answers calls quickly

Private live chats expand
Medicaid, food assistance,
cash assistance join child support
Later this month,
Hamilton County residents with questions about their Medicaid, food
assistance and cash assistance cases can have private online chats with
caseworkers about their cases.
Hamilton County’s
Department of Job and Family Services will offer the private chats 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays to help those with case-related questions.
To access the chats, visit www.hcjfs.org
(under Quick Links or Services, then the program area).
The county began offering
private chats with child support customers in March 2009 (on the Child
Support page under Services on
www.hcjfs.org). More than 2,800 child support chats took place in
2009. The agency has provided monthly general, public chats on various
topics since May 2008.
Hamilton County JFS has
been using interactive technology as part of a social media strategy
aimed at relieving pressure on crowded phone lines and busy waiting
rooms. About 55,000 people visit the Hamilton County JFS each month, and
the agency's main phone number gets 2,000 calls a day. |

Using technology
to improve service
Dear Friends,
When I
accepted the position of director at Hamilton County’s Department of Job and
Family Services nearly three years ago, one of my goals was to make our
agency more accessible to the public. Little did I know how challenging that
goal would be to achieve.
In many
ways, we have made great strides. We have stationed workers in hospitals to
help with Medicaid applications. We partnered with the public library system
to allow verification documents to be faxed from branches throughout the
county, enabling clients to avoid a trip downtown. We have improved our Web
offering and made great use of social media. I have even started my own blog
to keep people informed of what is happening here.
