Pinwheels for Prevention:
Eye-catching display raises awareness about child abuse
Hamilton County
will draw attention to the problem of child abuse when the
fourth-annual Pinwheels for Prevention begins April 2. High school
students will plant more than 6,000 pinwheels on the grassy lot
south of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.
Each pinwheel represents a reported
case of child abuse or neglect in Hamilton County in a year.
The county’s leading child abuse
prevention organizations -- Hamilton County Department of Job and
Family Services, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the
Hamilton County Family and Children First Council and the Council on
Child Abuse of Southern Ohio -- sponsor the display as part of the
national Pinwheels for Prevention campaign.
Pinwheels for Prevention has
attracted many visitors and extensive coverage in local media in the
past.
