Dear friends,
I am starting
2009 in an upbeat mood. The past few months have been
stressful for our agency as we have dealt with budget cuts
and I am very much looking forward to the new year. This is
a great time to re-focus on serving the people of Hamilton
County with the aid they need to achieve a better place in
life.
We have a new
Commission in 2009, with former Clerk of Courts Greg Hartmann
joining Commissioners Todd Portune and David Pepper. They have dealt
with some tough budget issues of their own, but I sense new optimism
and energy as we turn the corner to a new year. We are moving
forward and focusing on the good things happening in Hamilton
County.
I never forget
why I took this job. Sixteen years ago, I joined this agency because
I wanted to help children and families. I started out as a
Children’s Services worker, trying to ensure the safety of abused
and neglected children. Through the years, my titles and duties have
changed, but my mission has not: we are here to ensure our
community’s families and children receive the support they need to
lead healthy, safe and happy lives. I still feel a great sense of
pride any time I tell someone what it is I do.
You are a big
part of our success. Whether you are a provider who helps us with
our mission or a community member who offers support to us and your
fellow citizens, you have helped us make Hamilton County a better
place to live. I appreciate your support and patience in what has
been a very tough year.
2009 will offer
new challenges. I am glad our department is not in this alone. I
look forward to the whole community pulling together and ensuring
Hamilton County’s families and children do not fall through the
cracks during this time of economic turmoil. Let us all remember why
we do what we do.
Best wishes in
the new year,
Moira
