Foster parenting is
more than providing food and shelter. It’s about changing a child’s
life. Foster children come from tough circumstances. Many lack the
ability to trust, because they’ve never felt secure. Some are angry with
their circumstances and act out. Others are so damaged, they retreat
into their own world.
Foster parents have
the opportunity to change the course of a child’s life. They provide a
safe and happy home for children and help nurture them through one of
the toughest times their life. They serve as positive role models when a
child desperately needs one. And they are one of the first people to
invest in what will hopefully be a much brighter future for the child.
Foster parents are
there to wipe away tears, provide a few giggles, celebrate
milestones…they’re there to love. The relationship lifts both the parent
and the child to a higher place.
And, foster parenting
helps the community. Studies show abused children are more likely to
drop out of school, become involved in criminal activity, use drugs,
become teen parents and a host of other social ills. Foster parents who
change the course of a child’s life not only make a difference for that
child, but for their community.
