SWOFCA News

Already, the year is half gone! There is so much work to do and so little time to do it in. As I look over the last few weeks, we have been busy. To begin, thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate Foster Care Month at "Butterflies and Blue Ribbons" held at Krohn Conservatory on Wednesday, May 13, 2009. The event was a great success due to the participation of the foster families and our many Southwest Ohio Foster Care Agencies who came out to be apart.

We were delighted to see all of our State and local dignitaries present. Hamilton County Commissioner, Greg Hartmann presented a Proclamation in honor of Foster Care Month. He also shared words of thanks to foster parents for their desire and commitment to help children in substitute care in Hamilton County. Other dignitaries present were Moira Weir, Director of the Department of Job and Family Services, Sandra Holt, Deputy Director of the Department of Children and Families; Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and Barbara Manuel, Assistant Deputy of the Department of Children and Families; Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Our special Master of Ceremony was Channel 9- WCPO Meteorologist, Steve Norris.

Hamilton County foster parent and SWOFCA board member, Jackie Humphries was one of the 10th Annual Nefertiti Awards winners honored at a gala award luncheon at the Westin Hotel on June 6, 2009. Jackie was honored for her many acts of kindness and excellent work in the community. Congratulations Jackie, we are SO PROUD OF YOU!

Question of the month:

Can a person be a Hamilton County foster parent and a Hamilton County day care provider at the same time?

This is a question with a twist. A person can take the foster care classes and the day care classes and be certified for both BUT they can ONLY provide services for one or the other. Keeping your license current in both cases, is a good rule of practice.  If there are any rule changes to this information, I will let you know in the next Family Matters.
